It's about time . . . there is a huge fall out at Penn State, and we don't know where this will all lead, but one thing is certain,

Ron-
There is still so much unknown. If the any of the Trustees are involved, or alumni or anyone else, hopefully the truth will come out.

I have a problem when you set a "higher standard" for some than others because inevitably, who do you hold to that higher standard and who do you let "slide by" with the bare minimum? In the PSU case in point, many are lauding the Board of Trustees for taking the right, decisive actions. BULL!!! If they want me to believe that none of them, over a nine year period, failed to have any knowledge of this they are woefully naive!! And to add insult to injury, we have our illustrious (and I use that term loosely) governor, an Ex-officio Member of that Board agreeing with their actions, when he, as Attorney General, initiated an investigation into this matter years ago, and "TOOK NO ACTION!!!" Why is it now correct to see heads roll? Maybe because now taking action can't adversely affect his candidacy? I wouldn't be a bit surprised that when you dig really deep into the muck and mire that makes up this fiasco, you find Ray Gricar's remains!! This will not start to smell right until the entire current Board of Trustees submit their resignations or they are voted out in subsequent elections and Governor Corbitt submits his resignation from that Office!

"doing the minimum" is not gonig to be acceptable anymore in college sports. Whether this can translate into an overall raising of ethical standards in our communities, in our institutions and in our governance remains to be seen. Accountability is back in vogue, we hope. What would have happened if the Catholic Church had "fired" a few Cardinals or Bishops, when sexual abuse was discovered there?
And we have the case of Olumpus, with headquarters in Quakertown, PA. Apparently up to $1.0 billion dollars in losses were covered up over a 20 year period.Over 900 jobs in the headquarters there are now in jeopardy due to the mismanagement and coverups by executives at the highest level.
These issues go to the core of "governance" in a broader sense. Protecting the institution as the expense of ethics and the larger community and the greater good. And if you don't think the firing Joe Paterno and the others involved was or is warranted, please read the grand jury report which you can read by clicking on the link below.

In the movie, "A Few Good Men," when the two marines who were charged with murder were acquited but dishonerably discharged, the punch line was,
Downey : What did we do wrong? We did nothing wrong.
Dawson : Yeah, we did. We were supposed to fight for the people who couldn't fight for themselves. We were supposed to fight for Willie.
Yes indeed! And that's why the across the board firings were warranted.
