School children in Philadelphia and Camden are well on their way towards a better equipped future with the help of some new summertime experiences.
Philadelphia City Hall is offering 100 local high school students internship at the Philadelphia City Hall. Mayor Michael Nutter initiated the program with some words of advice, urging students to ask questions without hesitation because that’s how they can use this opportunity to learn. The summer program is for 6 weeks and the students will work 20 hours a week, for which they will get paid. Students are excited about the internship and say that they plan to talk to people and learn as much as possible from their experience, to help prepare for their future.
In the Philadelphia students are excited about the opportunity to interact with the city departments, Camden school children are excitedly looking forward to learning more about their favorite sport – tennis.
The Campbell Soup Foundation, a philanthropic organization, has sponsored several trips to the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport where kids between 10 and 13 years of age are given pointers on tennis fundamentals. Students from three Camden elementary schools and who are members of the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education program are chosen for this educational road trip. At Newport, they will learn about the great tennis players, see some matches, play on the grass courts at the venue, cool down with a swim in the pool and take a motorboat tour of the Harbor.
This year’s summer programs are something to look forward to, especially for the school children at Philadelphia and Camden.
