The Smart and Good Schools Inititive is a report from partnership between the CENTER FOR THE 4TH & 5TH'S and the INSTITUTE FOR EXCELLENCE & ETHICS. The Initiative began as a project funded by the John Templeton Foundation and the Sanford N. McDonald Foundation.
Part of the Initiative involved funding a major research report, SMART AND GOOD SCHOOLS (see below). It also helps fund a Summer Institute for teachers and administrators, which helps them integrate excellence and ethics, developing performance character (doing the best work) and moral character (doing the right thing).
My wife teaches in Reading, PA at an alternative Middle School and my younger daughter teaches 1st grade in the Bronx, New York. We have attended these Summer Institutes at SUNY Cortland. I highly recommend these, not just for teachers, but any administrator or business executive.
I think we could all learn from developing our abilities to "do our best work" and "do the right thing."
