CAUW Campaign Chair Kay Dell Antonio is busy with the arrangements for the upcoming start of the Clearfield Area United Way Campaign. But just because it is campaign time, doesn't mean that we haven't been busy with community projects our most recent one is the United Way initiative Jeans for Teens:

It’s OVER for another year - the seventh annual Jeans for Teens project being done by the Clearfield Area United Way with help from Kurtz Bros. was again a success, helping area teenagers receive new school clothes. According to shopping mentor Rich Greslick, “It wonderful to have accompanied several teens on their United Way sponsored J for T shopping trips through the years. Unless you have witnessed the gratitude of these kids in making these clothing selections, it’s easy to dismiss it as a nice program for kids. I’m here to say that it’s a great program that needs to be expanded, because we certainly have many people in the United Way jurisdiction who need this kind of help.” United Way works with area agencies, churches, department stores, youth and shopping mentors. “Currently, area families do not always have the resources to purchase new school clothes for their teenage children. Yet this group still has to have presentable clothing to wear to school on a daily basis. Feeling accepted, getting along with peers and having a positive self-esteem are all essential to kids – and at this middle and high school age, how you look and dress can mean so much,” explained Board President Dell’Antonio. That’s where the United Way Jeans for Teens comes in! “The agencies help us to identify young adolescents most in need of new school clothing,” Dell’Antonio explained. Through a special partnership, we have enough money again this year that each child can be given $100 for new clothes! For two days the youth met with “shopping buddies”, someone who spent time shopping with the kids and helped them make wise and appropriate choices about their purchases. “We appreciate Penney’s and Wal*Mart for giving extra goodies to enable the total purchase to be even more
The small but mighty program is complete this year, however, United Way IS IN NEED of donations to enable this important and self-esteem building program to continue; you can make a donation to help this special once-a-year event to continue; please make checks payable to the Clearfield Area United Way, P.O. Box 1430, Clearfield, PA 16830 with “Jeans for Teens” written in the memo line and thank you in advance. Questions can be made to Mrs. Nancy Pinto at the office at 814-765-6521.
