How do I find a proven expert in the grants profession to help me begin a grant program? Is there a method to the madness?

Dear Jack,
Since you asked....
Just as finance, health, legal and other professions have credentialing standards, the same is true for the grants profession. The Grant Professionals Certification Institute recognizes the GPC (Grant Professional Certified) and the Research Administrators Certification Council recognizes the CRA (Certified Research Administator). Both credentials have a body of knowledge with standards to master based on three years or more of employment in the grants field; proven success in grant acquisition; credit units demonstrating ongoing professional development; and the successful passing of a generalist exam.
The GPC is held by a wide range of grant professionals serving non-profits, government, education, and health and human services institutions. The CRA has a greater focus on the Office of Sponsored Programs within the university system. Both the GPC & CRA exams are designed for the individual who demonstrates mastery in the grants field. An entry-level candidate into the profession can neither pass, nor sit to take, the GPC or CRA exam.
When seeking assistance in locating competent grant writing assistance or full services, ask the candidates if they have these certifications.

Click on www.cra-cert.org and click on "Active CRA's" for a list of CRA's in your area.
