The new facility of the Fort Wayne-based Brooks Construction Co. Inc. has developed a product called HyRAP which is 100% recycled asphalt paving material.

John Brooks, who is the co-owner of the company, announced that HyRAP, which they had developed in collaboration with the Crowley Chemical Co., is the first of its kind in the country. Brooks Construction has been operating for more than 100 years now.
The facility was funded privately; the company received no grants or government funding. Brooks says that the following are the key benefits of HyRAP:
• The material can be produced with reduced consumption of petroleum, without virgin aggregates or additional mining of aggregates.
• Since there is no requirement for virgin aggregate material, the HyRAP production facilities can be located near the job sites, which will in turn reduce trucking costs and emissions.
• The recycled materials do not change with time and reuse, which means that they can be used indefinitely because the recycled materials will also have the same properties as that of virgin materials.
Since the cost of virgin asphalt material will continue to rise over time, recycling proves to be a very viable option for the future.
